Mystery-Woman delivered of first born from four-year-old pregnancy

There was shock and amazement in Ikugbomire in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, on Wednesday as a woman was delivered of a baby from a pregnancy she had carried for four years. People trooped to Alayo Vantage Hospital from far and near for a glimpse of the miracle baby.

Before she was delivered of the baby, the happy mother had become the butt of taunts and ridicule in the community, particularly after a scan conducted on her protruding tummy indicated that all she had in it was fibroid.

The arrival of the baby therefore marked the end of years of anxiety for 33-year-old Oluwabunmi and her 42-year-old husband, Bankole Ogidan.
According to her husband, Bankole Ogidan, their wedding took place on August 27, 2011.

“We were full of hope about having children and raising a complete family. But we had to wait till August 2013 before she got pregnant exactly two years after,” he said.

“We went for pregnancy test and it was confirmed positive. A few days after, my wife complained that she was feeling pains in her womb. We went to a midwife who told us that the pain was not a problem; that the pregnancy was intact. I was not satisfied, so I took her to another hospital (name withheld) where we did a scan but the doctor said he didn’t see any pregnancy. The doctor said there had been a miscarriage. I asked him that shouldn’t there be an outflow of blood if she had a miscarriage? The doctor said yes. I told him that we had not witnessed anything like that and he was shocked.
Scared by the doctor’s pronouncement, Bankole ran to the pastor of his church, Prophet Emmanuel Ogbara, who assured him that God had told him the pregnancy was intact. A couple of weeks later, Ogidan went back with his wife to the hospital but they were told that what she had in her womb was fibroid. They left for the General Hospital, Gbagada, where they were asked to see a gynaecologist. Again, the gynaecologist told them that what he saw in Oluwabunmi’s stomach was multiple fibroid with no chance of conception.

“All this while, my wife’s menstruation had ceased,” Bankole said. “It was only once after the pregnancy was sighted that we observed that little blood came out but stopped almost immediately. We left there for the Government Hospital in Owode, Ogun State.

“Thereafter, we returned for a scan session. The gynaecologist said there were three sets of fibroid where the baby ought to be, but that the way my wife looked, she appeared like a woman who was ready for delivery. He said he would act fast and do an x-ray that would reveal more. That was on March 25, 2014.“We did the x-ray but we were told that though they believed in God, from all medical indications, there was no more pregnancy in the womb. They said the uterus was elongated, blocked with a concentration of urine fibroid and the white fallopian tube was outlined. They concluded that it was fibroid. I asked if she could get pregnant and they said no.”
Meanwhile, Oluwabunmi’s stomach had protruded as if she was due for delivery. People whispered wherever she passed in the neighbourhood and her story was used for jokes. Bankole said he could not even think of sleeping with his wife because of the delicate nature of her condition all through the period.

“There was pressure from all corners—family, friends and well-wishers—who all had their suggestions as to the solution. Some said we were hearing wrongly from God,” he said.
Asked if he was not afraid that his wife would die in the process of waiting for a baby, he said:

“I did not worry about death at all. I was only more inspired to wait on God. As a matter of fact, we stopped going for medical opinion. As far as we were concerned, they had no good news for us, so we resorted to our church and prayer.

“On the 10th of September, 2015, my wife became terribly ill with signs of labour. I had to look for any hospital in sight because her condition was bad. That was how we got to this hospital.

“After giving her the initial treatment, we were told to go for another scan. To the glory of God, the doctor here said he had seen a baby; that my wife was carrying four months pregnancy.”
But the mystery again was how the pregnancy could be four months old when he was not making love to his wife, and his wife’s protruding stomach was there for all to see?

“At the church, the prophet confirmed again that the child had all along been there; only that scan could not pick it. So the hospital continued to nurture the baby for antenatal. But here again, they still saw fibroid in the womb. But to the glory of God 27th January this year, our baby finally arrived,” Bankole said.
But that was not all. After some time, the baby was said to have “got lost” in the womb.
The hospital’s matron said:

“We had to do an operation. When we did, we found that contrary to scan reports, we met a different thing in the womb. It was a sac with pus inside. It was not fibroid. And looking inside, we didn’t see any baby. But I remembered that I used to hear sound inside Mrs Ogidan’s womb, so the doctor searched further; the baby was  hidden in the uterus.

“We thank God. It’s a miracle. The sac was so big that it swallowed up the uterus where the baby was. The sac was so big that the uterus could not be easily found. The doctor said he had never seen such a thing before.”

According to Dr Sam Akinyemi, a consultant on naturopathic gynecology.

“This is an abnormal medical record. But nothing is impossible in this world. All homo sapiens must take note of that.

“It is the joy of every pregnant woman that at 40 weeks or before then, the woman must fall into labour. When it does not happen, it becomes a major concern to the physician and the patient herself.

“In natural medical gynecology, we have had cases of that nature. It can be the result of retardation in hormonal production in the pregnant patient or mother. And metaphysically, nature won’t seize to amaze us in its power.”

Leonardo DiCaprio meets Pope Francis

The actor who is also a green crusader was in Vatican to meet with the Pope and discuss their mutual interest on environmental matters.

'Your Holiness, thank you for granting me this private audience with you,' DiCaprio said in Italian as he arrived in the Apostolic Palace and kissed the pope's ring.

He gave the pope a cheque from his charitable foundation and presented him with a book of works by the 15th-century Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch.
'As a child I didn't quite understand what it all meant, but through my child's eyes it represented a planet, the utopia we had been given, the overpopulation, excesses, and the third panel we see a blackened sky that represents so much to me of what's going in in the environment,' DiCaprio told the pope.

Man kills his 2 month old son because he won't stop crying

31 year old Danielle Whyte had given birth to her baby boy just seven weeks before he was allegedly murdered at the hands of the most unsuspecting suspect - his own father.

51-year-old Jose Feliciano was allegedly jealous of baby Mason for commanding the attention of Whyte. On Dec. 10, police say Feliciano grew angry after hearing Mason crying and yelled at him in his room to stop crying but the infant kept crying, shortly after, Whtye heard ‘several loud bangs.’

Prosecutors now say the baby suffered ‘blunt force trauma.’

While Whyte explains she tried to revive her son once she realized what happened, it was too late. She says Feliciano allegedly threatened to kill her if she called police, so she decided not to.

Officials didn’t know about Mason’s tragic death until week later when Whyte attempted to harm herself and was sent to a New York hospital.
It was in the psychiatric ward where she confessed that Feliciano had taken the life of her baby boy and the location of where his body was buried. Police eventually found little Mason under a pile of dirt with a rose on top.

Now, even though she might not have physically killed her son, she’s charged with manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide charges, according to New York Daily News. She plead not guilty.
Officials say Whyte knew what she was doing when she left Mason in the ‘danger’ of her boyfriend’s care and did nothing to help him survive.

A CCTV showed him walking out of their apartment with a gym bag the night baby Mason was killed. Apparently, the infant was in that bag, he buried him in the same bag and acted like nothing happened.

Feliciano has plead not guilty to second-degree murder charges and, if convicted, faces a life sentence.

Woman steals fiancee's $1.5 million, attempts to murder him in Lagos

The Police have accused a 46-year-old woman, Victoria Alaegbu, of attempting to kill her fiancé and stealing his 1.5 million dollars cash, equivalent to N295.5 million.
Alaegbu, whose address was not given, was arraigned Wednesday at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, attempt to kill, stealing, unlawful detention and possession of a fake document.
Prosecuting Sergeant Nicholas Akpene told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offenses on December 13, 2015, at 8:30 p.m, at Ojora Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant attempted to kill one Prince Hillary Unachukwu by administering a noxious chemical substance on him.
It was also alleged that the substance administered on Unachukwu knocked him out from 8:00 p.m to 12:00 midnight, which gave the defendant time to steal his $1.5 million, equivalent to N295.5 million.
The prosecutor further alleged that after taking Unachukwu’s money, the defendant locked him up inside his apartment with a padlock.
He then alleged that when the noxious substance administered to him gradually wore off and Unachukwu awoke, he was too weak to free himself from the unlawful detention by the defendant.
The prosecutor also claimed that the defendant was unlawfully in possession of a SIM card with number 07087773669, without properly registering the number with her name and address.
He added that the registration of the sim card was done with the intent to commit fraud.

The defendant, however, denied all of the charges.
Magistrate S. K. Matepo (Mrs) granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in the like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, show evidence of tax payment, and one of the sureties should be a blood relation of the accused. The case adjourned till February 10 for mention.

University student commits suicide after finding out she had bad exam results

20 year old a Samantha Macdonald, a student of the University of Salford jumped to her death from her hall of residence (pictured above) after finding out her exam results weren't good enough to follow her dream of becoming a research scientist. She told friends she wanted to get a first-class degree as part of her life's ambition to make a difference as a top scientist, but the human biology undergraduate was left devastated after receiving a 2:2 in her second-year exams which she feared were not good enough.

Ms McDonald after a night out clubbing with friends jumped from her student apartment at the University, a security guard tried to revive her but she died from multiple injuries. After her death, police found a diary which contained a list of Ms MacDonald's likes, dislikes and ambitions. It included the intention to complete a PhD, to find a cure for diabetes and to 'make a difference' in the world.

Her housemate and coursemate Emma Reid, who went out with Ms MacDonald on the night she died, said that she rarely noticed anything troubling her friend.  Her father also said that she had never spoke of feeling depressed and that her family tried to encourage her as much as possible:
''She was always a very hard-working girl but she never really got the grades that reflected her studies,' he said. 'She had a very strong interest in science and wanted to make a change in the world. She could not wait to get back to university as she had a good social life and enjoyed seeing her friends. 'As far as we were aware she was very focused on completing her degree and working in science afterwards. We were so proud that she was making new friends and a life and a future for herself at university", he said.
"She has never mentioned to us that she was feeling low or depressed and she has not given any indication to any of her family that she was feeling low or that she wanted to harm herself in any way.' He added that the letters written to the family suggested she had intended to commit suicide. 'In one letter she says she had written the letter 100 times. I don't know if she intended doing this at the start of the night but maybe the reason she got drunk is maybe to go through with it. 'One of the letters said she had been hiding her depression from us", he said.
Her house mate revealed that after they partied, they got a taxi back to their block of flats and were laughing and joking until Miss Reid went to bed at 4am. But, shortly afterwards, another flatmate Jasmin Lodge, who was up early to attend a nursing placement, heard movement from Ms MacDonald's room followed by commotion outside the flats. She arrived downstairs at 5.40am to find a security guard giving Ms MacDonald chest compressions while awaiting paramedics.

Diploma holder attempts to rape pregnant woman in broad daylight

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a diploma holder, Samuel Onochie, for allegedly sexually assaulting a pregnant woman, Esther (pseudonym), in Jakande, in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state.
It was learnt that the woman, said to be eight-month-old pregnant, was passing through the area on Sunday at about 6 am, when Onochie ambushed her.
The 34-year-old suspect, who told the police that he bagged a diploma in law from a university in Benin, Edo State, reportedly threw Esther on the floor and stripped her wrapper.

Punch gathered that he had dipped his finger into Esther’s private parts and was about to penetrate her when a man was drawn to the scene by the woman’s wailing.
The man was said to have held Onochie, who is also a cobbler, while Esther rushed to the Ilasan Police Division and reported the incident, leading to his arrest.
A police source told our correspondent that the suspect had yet to explain why he allegedly committed the act.
“It is very disturbing that a man could commit such an act, especially with a pregnant woman. As if it was not enough, he did it in broad daylight. He has not been able to tell us why he committed the act,” the source said.
Onochie was brought before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on one count of sexual assault by a police prosecutor, Inspector Philip Osijale.Owolabi granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate said one of the sureties must be related by blood to the defendant, adding that both sureties must have paid three years tax to the Lagos State Government.
While adjourning the case till March 14, 2016, Owolabi ordered that the defendant should be remanded in prison pending the time he would perfect his bail conditions.

Expectant mum suffers womb rupture in Lagos police cell

An expectant mother, Mrs Tosin Taiwo, is battling to save her unborn baby after allegedly suffering a womb rupture following her collapse in police custody on Tuesday.
Mrs Taiwo who claimed to have bled for two days in police cell, said she was rushed to Randle General Hospital in Surulere, where it took doctors two hours to revive her.

She said she spent four days in detention at Surulere Police Station and was denied bail by the Investigating Police Officer (IPO). Mrs Louisa Njoku, who claimed to be acting on “orders from above”.

Mrs Taiwo, who is in hospital at Agbado Ijaiye, a Lagos suburb, said she was arrested last Saturday at Meiran Market over the N4.2million she is owing Ajibola Abudu, a businessman.
The woman, who is eight-weeks pregnant, said her scan result shows there is a rupture in her womb. She told The Nation yesterday that she suffered breath seizure in detention.
Mrs Taiwo said:
“I was locked up for four days without bail. I bled on Saturday and Sunday, I also told the policemen that I was not feeling well but nothing was done. I was taken to Randle General Hospital but I left there on Tuesday evening. I am now at a family hospital in my area where I have done scan and they said there is a rupture somewhere in my womb.
“It must have been caused by my inability to breathe while inside the cell. I could not cope there, I suffered breath seizure. The toilet was dirty and the stench in the cell was unbearable. It was choking. There was even no water to bath or anything. The experience was horrible.”
She said she borrowed money from the complainant to do business last May but was duped, adding that he rebuffed all her entreaties for a payment plan.Abudu, she claimed, insisted that she should pay the money once.
Her husband Olusola Taiwo said the IPO disobeyed the order of Area C Commander Tajudeen Bakare, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), to release her.
He said:
“She refused to release and did not charge her to court. I told the IPO that my wife was not feeling well but she refused to listen.
“The IPO said she will not grant her bail due to instruction from above. I believe the complainant gave the instruction. That is why he brought the case to Surulere Police Station where he knows officers.
“One of the officers, who arrested her at Meiran, boasted that she would rot in jail.
“He brought police to arrest her on Saturday and detained her at Surulere Police Station. All efforts to secure her bail proved abortive as the IPO told us there was instruction from above not to grant her bail.”
Taiwo said after he failed to secure his wife’s bail on Sunday and Monday, he went to see Bakare, who called the parties and pleaded with Abudu to accept the payment plan.
“But the complainant refused insisting on complete payment, otherwise, my wife should be charged to court. When the Area Commander saw that he was not cooperating, he ordered the IPO to release my wife since the case was a civil matter, but his directive was not followed by the IPO who restated there was an ‘order from above’ to detain her.
“Because of our insistence, the IPO said she would be charged to court on Tuesday morning. We went to the station early in the morning and waited for that to happen. It was in the course of waiting that my wife fainted.
“We rushed her to Randle General Hospital with the IPO in the vehicle and it took about two hours before she was revived. I was called to come to the station and sign for her bail while she was still at the hospital,” he said.

Are Kim Kardashian and Kanye West planning to renew their vows in order to save their marriage?
A source tells In Touch magazine that Kim and Kanye have been arguing nonstop for months and things got so bad, Kanye even threated to divorce the reality star just days after their son was born.
The insider adds that  the couple has decided they need to work out their alleged issues for the sake of their children, and believe a vow renewal ceremony will help bring them closer.  "He’s arranging the entire affair and already laying down strict rules, which include no cameras or cellphones… and just 50 of their closest friends and family members," says source.
The mag further claims the couple's vow renewal is supposed to take place in May which would also serve as Kim's "weight-loss deadline.  "Kanye’s pressuring her to lose the baby weight and he thinks scheduling a vow renewal ceremony will give Kim the motivation she needs," the source claims.
However, Gossip Cop reports that KimYe is not renewing their vows to save their marriage despite In Touch's reports. The site calls the story, "not true."
The outlet claims it checked in with a source close to the couple, and were exclusively assured that West and Kardashian do not plan on renewing their vows, and their marriage certainly isn't in need of saving.

Dasuki’s, General’s houses sided by EFCC in Kaduna

Property believed to belong to embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki was at the weekend confiscated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Kaduna.

It was learnt that the property of others linked with the $2.1billion scandal were also confiscated by the anti-graft agency in Kaduna.
Among them is a former Theatre Commander of the Operation Lafia Dole in Maiduguri, Major General Yishau Mahmood Abubakar.
It was learnt that occupants of some of the buildings were expelled by EFCC operatives who took over the property, which they marked with red ink.

Dasuki’s confiscated property are said to be a hotel complex on Rabah Road, Malali GRA in the heart of Kaduna metropolis and a mansion under construction on Sani Sami Road, also in Malali GRA.
Except for some workers moving out their tools, the site was empty yesterday.
Maj.-Gen. Abubakar’s residential duplex located at No. 5C, Sultan Close was sealed off Sunday evening.
When our the Nation correspondent visited the property yesterday, it was marked in red paint, “Keep off, under EFCC investigation” in red paint.
It was also gathered that when the EFCC operatives arrived at the house, there was a birthday party going on. Everybody was asked to vacate the premises immediately and they obeyed.
A shopping mall allegedly belonging to Gen. Abubakar’s wife was also confiscated by the anti-graft agency. The inscription “Keep off, under EFCC investigation”  was put on it.
Sources said the property belongs to the General’s brother and not his wife –  as alleged.
Another shopping mall on Sultan Road, which is believed to belong to Gen. Abubakar’s friend who is an Ambassador was also confiscated.
